Ya le tocaba ganar un Emmy a Breaking Bad. La serie que afronta sus últimos episodios ante las buenas críticas de los espectadores se despide de su audiencia por la puerta grande recibiendo el galardon a Mejor Serie Dramática, en una edición donde los premios han sido muy repartidos.
La primera sorpresa de la noche la dio Jeff Daniels, actor principal de The Newsroom, al llevarse el Emmy a Mejor Actor, cuando todas las miradas estaban puestas en Bryan Cranston, que encarna al profesodr de química convertido en narcotraficante de cristal, Walter White. Breaking Bad se quedó sin ese galardón, pero se llevó el de Mejor Actriz Secundaria de Drama con Anna Gunn, a pesar de que su personaje no cuenta con muchos defensores. No sorprendió así, el Emmy a Claire Daines como Mejor actriz dramática en Homeland, revalidando así su título del año pasado.
En comedia, el jurado ha vuelto a premiar a Modern Family, cuarto Emmy consecutivo en la categoría de Mejor Serie Cómica y a Jim Parsons como Mejor Actor de Comedia en la serie The Big Bang Theory.   En cuanto a las categorías de miniserie o película para televisión, el filme de HBO Behind the candelabra  se alzó como la gran triunfadora de la noche con tres galardones, entre ellos el otorgado a Michael Douglas.
La ceremonia, presentada por Neil Patrick Harris, tuvo sus momentos más emotivos en los tributos a los difuntos Cory Monteith, Jean Stapleton, Jonathan Winters, Gary David Goldberg y James Gandolfini, quien fue recordado sobre el escenario por Edie Falco, la esposa de su famoso personaje Tony Soprano en Los Sopranos.
